Techniques for effective painting

Painted doll house provides aesthetical pleasure to the eyes. Painting is itself an art that requires precision and skill set. Painting a doll house can be a daunting task as you have to work with small brushes which requires tremendous amount of patience and precision.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: Less than an hour.

Here's How:

  • Painting: It is always wiser to use thinner coats of paints. By doing this you are actually making all the surfaces even. Remove all the unwanted and odd elements from the walls or surface to be painted. Apply two or three coat of paints on the surface and make sure that you sand in after every coat in order to get a smooth surface.
  • Sanding: Sanding means removing all the rough parts from the surface. You can use different types of sanding materials like plastic sanding pads or #220 sandpaper. You can also use emery board to sand small areas or components. The resulting finish is very smooth and gives more professional look to your finished products.
  • Staining: Oil base stains are used to pull out the grain of the wood. One coat of the stain is sufficient on the surface. You can apply stain with a brush or with a cloth. The stain takes 24 hour to dry. Stain the surfaces if you are planning to apply wallpaper on them.

Tips:

  • The most important thing which has to be kept in mind while painting your doll house that the surfaces are neatly cleaned. If you still feel that the finish is not exactly as you want it to be, sand again and again unless it is perfect for applying paint on it.
  • Always make sure you are wearing your work clothes or apron. You also need a work area where you can keep your supplies, materials and tools at hand. Gather up all your tools and supplies and follow the basics.
  • After applying stain, allow it to dry for 24 hours.
